Activities at Summerhayes Care Home

At Summerhayes, we believe that every day is an opportunity for our residents to engage, enjoy, and find meaning in life. We offer a wide range of activities designed to enhance both physical and mental well-being, ensuring that each resident has the chance to explore new interests or continue with hobbies they love. Whether you’re seeking social interaction, creative outlets, or simply a relaxing environment, our activities programme is tailored to suit everyone.

Our social activities are carefully planned and run by our dedicated and passionate staff. The programme is designed to accommodate a variety of interests, abilities, and needs. From arts and crafts to gentle exercise, there is something for everyone. Residents can choose how much they want to participate—whether it’s a lively group activity or a quiet one-on-one session, the choice is entirely theirs.

We’re proud to welcome regular visitors from the local community who enhance our activities programme with their unique talents and interests. These visits can include musical performances, storytelling, or art workshops—providing additional variety and excitement to our residents’ lives.

We understand the importance of exploring the world beyond our walls. Summerhayes regularly organizes outings to nearby restaurants, cafes, garden centres, and even trips to the seaside and the theatre. These outings offer a wonderful opportunity for fresh air, socializing, and new experiences.

We recognize that each resident is an individual with unique preferences and abilities. Our activities programme is designed to reflect this, ensuring that everyone has the chance to participate in ways that suit their personal interests and capabilities. If you prefer to take a break or simply relax, that is perfectly okay to —your comfort and happiness are our priority.

For residents living with dementia, we offer specially tailored activities to support cognitive function and improve quality of life. These include memory games, singing sessions, painting, coloring, and creating scrapbooks, all aimed at stimulating memory and promoting a sense of achievement. We believe in providing a caring and engaging environment for everyone, especially those with dementia, to enhance their overall well-being.

To ensure that activities are meaningful, we ask relatives to assist us by completing a life questionnaire for each resident. This helps us understand their history, interests, and passions. We also encourage families to share photographs, as this allows us to incorporate personal memories into our activities, making them more relevant and enjoyable for each resident.

In addition to our activities programme, we also provide a variety of services to enhance residents’ overall health and well-being. We have regular visits from a hairdresser, chiropodist, aromatherapist, and optician for those who require them. These services are offered at an additional cost, directly payable to the service providers.

This Months Outing

Our Monthly Outing

Each month, we organise a special outing to give our residents the opportunity to enjoy meaningful experiences outside the home. These trips offer a refreshing change of scenery, the chance to socialise, and the joy of exploring places both new and familiar. Every outing is carefully planned with comfort, accessibility, and enjoyment in mind, ensuring everyone can take part in a way that suits them best.

Throughout the year, our outings take us to a lovely variety of destinations — from seaside visits to Exmouth, relaxed shopping and refreshments at the Exe Valley Farm Shop, and leisurely browse-and-stroll days at Homeleigh and Bernaville. Each trip has its own charm, whether it’s enjoying a warm drink, picking out plants, or simply sharing time together in a welcoming setting.

Full details of each month’s outing, including the cost, can be found on the poster displayed to the left.

This month’s outing will see us take a stroll to the local village hall to enjoy the community pantomime, Sleeping Beauty. It’s a fantastic opportunity to support our local community and sit back for an afternoon of great entertainment.
